Top Three Best Upgrades for the Daily Driven Audi

This post is nearly eight years in the making. By now, with the exception of some newer models, most Audis enjoy robust aftermarket support, offering a wide selection of upgrade parts and software. But how do you approach modifying yours just right? The answer isn’t a “one size fits all” solution, as car modifications are highly personal, tailored to individual tastes or desired outcomes. With that in mind—and based on more than seven years of use and abuse—here’s my list of the top three best upgrades for a daily-driven Audi.

1. Upgraded Rear Sway Bar (RSB)

The first and arguably most impactful upgrade is a solid rear sway bar (RSB). Ideally, this will be made from solid spring steel, providing a major improvement over the hollow OEM counterpart. Even Audi’s sportiest models are engineered for the masses, balancing comfort, sound insulation, and road isolation. An upgraded RSB, such as the 034Motorsport Rear Sway Bar, can transform your car’s handling without sacrificing ride quality or introducing noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH).

Audis are often criticized for their tendency to understeer, but this upgrade changes the game. A stiffer rear sway bar encourages the rear to rotate more freely, making the car feel significantly more agile and less “push-prone.” With reduced body roll and better rear-end grip, your Audi will feel like it’s glued to the road. Having tested both the 034Motorsport street and track spec sway bars, I can confidently say this is a must-have modification for any enthusiast.

2. Dynamic+ Springs

For the second upgrade, I recommend a good set of lowering springs. While coilovers are often seen as the ultimate suspension upgrade, a high-quality set of springs strikes a balance between performance and affordability for daily drivers. For example, 034Motorsport’s Dynamic+ Springs (tested extensively on the 2023 S5) deliver functional performance improvements with an added bonus of enhanced aesthetics.

Unlike traditional lowering springs that prioritize appearance over usability, these springs maintain an OEM-like ride quality while improving handling and responsiveness. They’ve been tested rigorously on California’s race tracks and in everyday driving conditions, proving their durability and versatility. While coilovers offer more tuning flexibility, they’re unnecessary for most daily drivers, making springs the smarter choice for those who want improved handling without compromising comfort—or breaking the bank. 3. Cold Air Intake

Last but not least, a cold air intake is a simple yet satisfying upgrade. This modification enhances throttle response, delivers satisfying induction noises, and even has potential long-term cost benefits. By opting for a reusable filter, you save money on replacements over time.

For context, a standard OEM air filter from Audi costs about $25. Over ten years, that adds up to around $125 (excluding taxes and shipping). A reusable cold air intake filter, though initially more expensive, can offset this cost while delivering better airflow and a more engaging driving experience. While performance gains are minimal, the improved sound and feel make this upgrade worth considering—especially for enthusiasts who want a wallet-friendly way to enhance their car.

Wrapping It Up

With a budget of under $1,000, these three upgrades can drastically improve your Audi’s handling, responsiveness, and driving experience. Of course, modification is an endless journey, but for those looking to make their car more engaging while keeping things practical and DIY-friendly, these three are the perfect starting point.
